Discover a Different Kind of Toast
Share
We all know toast. You put a slice of bread in the toaster, brown it and eat it.
But try doing it the other way around.
Toast the bread first and then slice it thinly with the Nicer Slicer.
What you get is a very different experience from conventional toast.
The heat from the toaster does two things. It browns and crisps the outside of the bread while heating the bread inside, making it warm and soft.
Then you slice it.
The Nicer Slicer cuts through the crisp toasted exterior and reveals the warm, soft bread inside. Now you have two thin slices, each with a crisp toasted surface on one side and a warm, soft surface on the other.
It's the contrast that makes the difference.
A Trick from Poilâne
Lionel Poilâne, the legendary Paris baker, had a simple trick when making toast at home. He would put two thin slices of his famous sourdough together in the same toaster slot.
The outside surfaces toasted and became crisp and browned. The surfaces facing each other were heated but protected from the direct heat of the toaster, so they stayed warm and soft.
The result was that same wonderful contrast: crisp toast on one side and warm, soft bread on the other.
The Nicer Slicer gives you a simple way to get that experience.
Toast the bread first. While it's still warm, put it in the Nicer Slicer and slice it. The toasted outside surfaces stay crisp and browned, while slicing reveals the bread that has been warmed and softened inside.
Now you have both in two thin slices.
Try It with Good Bread
This is particularly good with a nice sourdough or a crusty artisan loaf.
Toast the bread first. Then, while it's still warm, slice it thin with the Nicer Slicer.
Now make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
The two thin slices give you the contrast we've been talking about: crisp and toasted on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. And because the bread is thin, the peanut butter and jelly become the star of the sandwich instead of getting lost between two thick pieces of bread.
I'd wager it will be the best PB&J you've ever experienced.
